1st Maryland Cavalry

                             Civilians

                               - Civilian Life -

The 1st Maryland is a family unit.  This emphasis does not disqualify those who are not married or have children, but it does set the tone that is expected of all members at all unit activities.  The civilian members represent the various civilian occupations and lifestyles found during the 1860s, for example, the Maryland Bible Society; in short, the civilian Living Historians augment the Military Living Historians and the total experience for both reenactors as well as the public. It is important that civilian family and social activities provide an enjoyable reenacting experience to the civilian members of the unit.  The civilian ladies of the 1st Maryland Cavalry Battalion, CSA demonstrate such skills as sewing, flag making and quilting. Men too are welcome as civilians to reenact such occupations as Photographers , news reporters , or just men from town.
