Section I-
A. The name is:
1ST Maryland Cavalry Battalion Battery B Companies A, E, H CSA, Inc.
B. The purpose is:
To portray Confederate cavalry the Army of Northern
Virginia and the civilians who supported them. It is the
responsibility of the military adjutant and civilian advisor
to establish guidelines for uniform, clothing, safety,
equipment and general camp appearance that will be
continually changing as historical records become clearer.
To support projects the Battalion deems worthy and be
consistent with the IRS requirements
3. To support battalion members in a social setting outside
reenacting.
A voting member is defined as any member who’s dues is current
Any voting member is eligible for staff, office, or committee position
All new military members must enter the battalion as a
trooper for a period of one year.
A. The battalion administrative staff shall consist of the following offices:
Chief of Staff: The Chief of Staff shall be the chief executive officer of the battalion, and possessing the powers and duties usually vested in the office of President. This office is open to any voting member of the battalion and the term is two years.
Military Adjutant: The Military Adjutant shall be the representative for all the military companies’ battalion. This office is open to any voting member serving in the military of this battalion and the term is two years.
Civilian Adviser: The Civilian adviser shall be the representative for all the civilians associated with this battalion. This office is open to any civilian voting member of this battalion and the term is two years.
Company Clerk: The Company Clerk shall be the clerical executive of the battalion. Duties include maintaining all records and correspondence of the battalion and possessing the powers and duties usually vested in the office of Secretary. This office is open to any voting member of the battalion and the term is two years.
Paymaster: The Paymaster shall be the financial executive officer of the battalion. Duties include collections and disbursements of revenue for the battalion and possessing the powers and duties usually vested in the office of Treasurer. This office is open to any voting member of the battalion and the term is two years.
B. A member may decline or retire from office at any time upon 30 days written notice to the administration staff. Notice will be given to the battalion and an election held for that office.
C. A member may be re-elected to any staff office that they are eligible for but may only hold one office at a time.
Annual meetings shall be held in January/February to establish the upcoming battalion schedule for the year, including special projects, and hold elections. Elections are held every other year.
Monthly in-season meetings shall be held during events, to keep the members informed of battalion business.
Special meetings may be called by the Chief of Staff to resolve
a specific important issue.
D. Order of Business:
1. Call to order.
2. Reading of Minutes, if not posted via e-mail
3. Old Business
4. Report of Committees.
5. Report of Paymaster.
6. New Business.
7. Adjournment.
Committees may be established to examine issues, make recommendations, and chair special projects. Committees will report to the Battalion’s administrative staff, specifically the Civilian Advisor.
Standing committees are:

- Special Projects
The Paymaster will establish & maintain a working checking account in the Battalion name: 1st Maryland Cavalry Battalion Inc.
The Paymaster may keep $50.00 in a petty cash fund to cover the expenses of postage, ledger, envelopes, etc, to be used for Battalion business. The paymaster must keep receipts and record all purchases in the company ledger.
The Chief of Staff must submit a budget and funding requirements at the annual meeting.
Disciplinary administration shall always be handled in a discrete manner as not to embarrass any member.
Serious violations include:
1. Theft
2. Illegal drug use and excessive use of alcohol (Defined as offensive to Battalion members or in violation of Valley Division rules)
3. Use of battalion funds/non- profit status for personal gain
4. Blatant disregard of safety standards:
Each service branch’s ranking officer should establish a set of written safety standards for that company, and submit those standards to the overall Battalion commander.
Any complaint brought to the administration staff by the Civilian Advisor or Military Adjutant, after all efforts have been exhausted at the company level to remedy the situation, the following will be established:
A. Hearing- In front of the administrative staff.
B. Indictment- The alleged violation to be considered
C.Defense- Charged member to explain what happened
D.Verdict- Vote guilty or not guilty by 4/5’s of the administrative staff members
E .Sentencing: As extreme as expulsion or as light as extra duty (picket or kitchen).Repeat violations will be considered
By-laws are voted on and adopted by the battalion’s current members and agreed to by all incoming /new members.
The by-laws may be revised by the in coming administration or a special meeting of the
